Baby Dominic came to me at 6 weeks new, and let me tell you, there is a BIG difference between photographing a 2 week old baby vs a 6 week old!
At 6 weeks, babies are more awake, more stretched out, and less willing to be swaddled. They’re also more aware when it’s not Mom or Dad handling them (especially during a pandemic when they aren’t held by many other people).
For Dominic, having a late newborn session during a pandemic meant that he had mostly been at home and he wasn’t used to being in new place (like my photography studio). I wasn’t his favourite person, moving him when he was trying to get some sleep, but we worked through it.
This session was awesome though, in that Dominic’s Dad turned out to be one of my neighbors when I was a kid. We moved out of that neighborhood when I was 14 (28 years ago!) and haven’t seen each other since. We went to elementary school together (although G is a couple of years younger than me) and our Moms were friends who talked frequently on the school playground.
Dominic’s Mama is awesome and I loved chatting with both of them. Dominic totally scored in the parent department!
In fact, my favourite photos from their gallery are the family shots simply because there is so much visible love and connection and I straight up LOVE the expressions on little Dominic’s face!
