One week ago I met with ‘K’ and her mama ‘D’ for K’s cake smash. I loved this session even before I photographed it because D was super organized and involved. We collaborated for 2 months prior to the session. D & K came to my studio to choose props and we even set up a private Pinterest board for D and myself to pin ideas to. In addition to the awesome prep, this session was going to have a hot air balloon (made by me), tissue paper decorations (made by D) and the fantastic colour pairing of purple & yellow (LOVE!)
I met mama & baby at a park in Mission where the setup was already well underway. I added the hot air balloon & a couple of vintage props and we were set. There was only 1 problem. K HATED the hot air balloon. We tried distracting her, making faces, peekaboo and anything else we could think of. But, you know how little ones are; once they’ve made up their minds, that’s it. I got a few shots but overall the hot air balloon was a bust.
Once the cake came out, the tears stopped (cake has that effect on me too) and on went the session…
